I had a bunch of parts for my 4 seater Electoless Nickel plated, even the brake rotors because I hate how the rust in the slotted vents. It wears great and has not even worn through on the rotors. I say it woud be great for alxes.

There has been a lot of discussion on GD.com about simply applying heat shrink around the axles. Another option was electrical tape. Many different colors available for both.

Got it from Fry's in Wilsonville....there are 2 numbers on heat shrink...orig size and shrink size.......mine was wrinkled too, but used a propane torch and some carefull placed heat and got it to smooth all out, stuff is thick so it needs some heat....just dont melt it....good luck.
