Anymore thoughts on this? I added ball clearance to the inside of the hub, there will be a hub cap for installing clips.
Other thoughts- would it be worth an extra piece to be able to pull the CV without pulling the wheel?

That would be pretty cool, But I think if your going as far as to take out the CV putting it on a stand would not be a big deal. UNLESS its a in the field repair and your trying to swap CV's in the sand then it would be awesome!

On my FMS mid-boards you can change out the axle and rebuild the mid board cv joint with the wheel on (yes in the dunes)

little update... still waiting on casting quotes and machine time for the prototypes. But I did find bearings/seals from our local bearing shop for a bit less than tritec.

Here a question...
Would this be a worthwhile feature?

The CV can be removed with the wheel still on Shocked

Some fresh parts done today-

These will suffice as my test mules to see how every thing works.
And they'll work with the parts I'm using right now.
I'm going for lots of backspacing as can be seen by the width.
It used stock I had sitting around.

On my gear one setup you can remove the CV with the hub still in the trailing arm sitting on the tires.

I do wonder if I'll be able to get away with the wheel center offset that far...
but I feel the rim center has more to do with where the leverage is at.
We shall see, these parts can change pretty fast. I have a full set of spares too. Spreading out the bearings could be an answer to problems as well.

I guess thats why they call it R&D.

As a side note my ideas for 5VW (aka the marketable ones) haven't changed and alot of parts interchange. So when I prep those I could swap wheels and upgrade. These are just a "I had all this stuff" project for when my junkyard microstub setup fails.

Good to know, complete CV? Its hard to read everything from their exploded view.

I would look to use sealed bearings or at least sealed on one side and then eliminate the outside seals and then spread the bearings out. Seems like it would carry the load better if they were farther apart.

Nice work anyways.

There aren't any sealed tapered roller bearings in that size range.
I can make the bearings further apart at this point... something that is pretty heavy on my mind, the only question is how much and how the brakes will play into the equation.

Such is the fun of prototypes, not everything is 100% relate-able in the digital form.

I believe the problem is addressed...

Increases the bearing width ~7/8

OPPS Embarassed
must have forgot to upload the pics... reload and they should be there.

I'm trying to push the CV joint out further to increase axle length and gain some wheel travel.
